Communications Paralegal

JOB SUMMARY:

The Communications Specialist / Paralegal is responsible for developing and managing strategic communications that advance the organization’s legal advocacy initiatives, enhance public engagement on legal issues, and support community capacity-building efforts for the rule of law.

The role combines content creation and social media management with general paralegal support, including legal research, documentation, and coordination with lawyers and community stakeholders. The position requires the ability to translate complex legal and policy issues into clear, accessible, and compelling content for diverse audiences.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Communications, Advocacy, and Public Engagement
  • Develop, write, and edit content for social media, website articles, policy briefs, client advisories, and advocacy campaigns.
  • Manage and maintain the organization’s social media platforms, including content scheduling, publishing, and audience engagement.
  • Translate legal, policy, and community issues into clear, accessible, and audience-appropriate messaging.
  • Ensure all communications align with the organization’s advocacy goals, branding, and ethical standards.
  • Monitor online engagement, respond to general inquiries, and escalate sensitive concerns as necessary.
  • Maintain and implement a content calendar aligned with campaigns, events, and advocacy priorities.
  • Track, analyze, and report on communication performance metrics, with recommendations for improvement.
  • Coordinate with lawyers, program staff, and community partners to gather content and document impact stories.
  • Support the development of information, education, and communication (IEC) materials for community capacity-building initiatives.
  1. Paralegal and Legal Support Functions
  • Provide administrative and paralegal support to lawyers and legal staff.
  • Assist in legal research, case preparation, and documentation.
  • Source, verify, and organize relevant legal and case information.
  • Maintain confidentiality and ensure compliance with ethical and data privacy standards.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Marketing, English, Legal Studies, or a related field.
  • At least 1–3 years of experience in communications, content creation, social media management, legal support, or a related role.
  • Experience in an NGO, advocacy organization, or legal environment is an advantage.
  • Background or training in law, legal studies, or paralegal work is preferred.
